22.02.2010 | To the Attention of Companies Making Production Notifications to the Turkish Pharmaceutical Track and Trace System

Warnings to the Manufacturers:

  1. It has been determined that the notifications of some products which have been released to the market with a DataMatrix have not been made to the system. Please complete the production notifications of the products with a DataMatrix you have released to the market before they fall into the dispatch field. Otherwise your products will not be able to be dispatched in the market.
  2. It has been determined that there are differences between the information on the DataMatrix and the notifications made to the system. It has especially been observed that there are some differences between the batch numbers and expiration dates on the DataMatrices and the notifications. Pharmacists will receive a message saying “Product Information is Incoherent” for products in this condition.
  3. Although there is no limitation on the sequence of the data which the DataMatrix contains in the GS1 standards, taking the market conditions into consideration it will be useful that the DataMatrices should be printed according to this sequence
  • 01 Barcode,
  • 21 Serial Number,
  • 17 Expiration Date,
  • 10 Batch Number

And thus prevent the victimhood of bopth the manufacturer and the pharmacist.

  1. It is indicated in our guideline that the day section of the expiration date can be coded as 00. In this case the expiration date should be notified to the system as the last day of the indicated month. The situation which does not pose a problem for the manufacturers, is notified by some pharmacy software wihout changing it correctly thus the dispatch operation cannot be made. Although the necessary warnings have been made to the software developers on this issue there are a few software present which are not able to make this operation. It will be useful to code the last day of the related month rather than 00 in the poduction.
  2. It is needed to obey the rules stated in the Regulation Regarding the Packaging and Labeling of Medicinal Products for Human Use for the Batch Number and Serial Number fields. Lower case letters, Turkish characters (ĞÜŞİÖÇ), special characters "(!^+%/-)" and such cannot be entered into the Batch Number and Serial Number fields.
  3. As deemed necessary it has been provided that the manufacturers can also verify their products after they have notified them to the system. It will be useful to understand the problems of products earlier on with the controlling of products whose production notification has been made with the sampling method using the standard DataMatrix readers sold in the market.
