Upon the demands of the Social Security Institution and the Turkish Pharmacists’ Association, the Pharmaceutical Track and Trace System will start only in pilot pharmacies as of July 1, 2009; the pilot scheme will take place during July 1 – October 1. Throughout the pilot scheme, pharmacies outside the scope of the pilot scheme will continue to sell drugs like they have done in the past, while the pilot pharmacies will be able to sell the drugs to reimbursement companies after getting the approval of the Pharmaceutical Track and Trace System for the drugs with DataMatrix. In this respect pharmaceuticals which have been produced with DataMatrix as of July 1, 2009 by all manufacturers will be able to be released into the market with barcode clip off labels or surcharge labels. A surcharge label or a label in the form of a barcode clip off will be applied to pharmaceuticals with DataMatrix which do not have a barcode clip off; and the pharmaceuticals which do not have a barcode will be sold by clipping off the DataMatrix instead of the barcode. The pilot pharmacies will be informed about the dispatch of pharmaceuticals produced with DataMatrix, information on the method which the manufacturer or the importers will follow will also be given.
